Capacity Building
BAIRC builds the capacity of member organizations by creating a learning environment within our campaigns (for more information on BAIRC campaigns, click here). As members contribute to BAIRC’s campaigns, we learn new strategies from peers, strengthen our organizing skills, build relationships with organizations from other sectors and ethnic communities, and increase our impact on issues affecting immigrant communities.

BAIRC also provides skills-building trainings that enable our members to more effectively advocate for social change. Some training sessions are focused on specific issues (e.g. how to talk about the CLEAR Act), while others offer an introduction to general skills. Sample trainings include:

Cross Ethnic Organizing Organized training at BAIRC’s Immigrant Rights Summit to examine why obstacles arise when different ethnic communities work together, and to brainstorm solutions and strategies for building a cross-ethnic movement for immigrant rights. Worry-Free Lobbying Organized training at BAIRC’s Immigrant Rights Summit to clarify the guidelines for nonprofits engaging in lobbying, and what actually constitutes lobbying according to those guidelines. Participants also learned the breadth of opportunity that exists for nonprofits to influence policy without threatening their tax-exempt status. Mobilizing Immigrant Voters As part of the Mobilize the Immigrant Vote 2004 campaign, co-organized a full-day training to help grassroots organizations train their staff and volunteers to register, educate and mobilize immigrant communities to vote.
